Biography:Ruth Butler Crawford came to Lewisville, New Brunswick in 1918. She worked on a boat as a cook and was literate. She was a tiny woman who always had a mat or quilt on the go. Ruth made at least twenty eight mats. She was always hospitable. An example of this was when a First Nation’s family visited her family and they were freezing. She wrapped the children up in a mat to warm them. She also traded her mats to Jewish peddlers for pots.
