Biography:Nancy McFarland Proctor's father was William McFarland who was born on Shepody Road and was a lumberman. Her mother was Mary Mills Anderson who was also born on Shepody Road. She went to school until grade eight and worked on the family farm and later as a chamber maid. She quilted and hooked with her sisters of which she was the youngest. They attended the Anglican Church. She played the piano and loved to cook. A favourite memory of the present owner of the mat was when the microwave was introduced to Nancy. Nancy married Ora Herbert Proctor, of Sussex Corner on October 5, 1938. They moved to Apohaqui to rent Mary Chambers farm. Their daughter Aubrey was born there on May 6, 1947. Shortly after they moved to Riverbank in the fall of 1947. The bear rug was made about this time. Ora was away at lumber camps in the winter. The borders of her mats were all from quilting patterns. She donated mats when people lost their homes to fires.
