| Biography: | When Marguerite Lillian Black was born, Mrs. Celeste Albert acted as midwife. She was the seventh of twelve children born to Joseph (Joey) Murphy and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Swift. She attended a one room school with her cousins until grade eight. She worked as a live in housekeeper and watched the children of neighbours. Marguerite also worked as a live in housekeeper to seniors. She attended many births as a midwife and she took vigil over the recently departed in the homes of the families in the area. On May 24, 1944, she married Stanley Black and moved to South Branch, Kent County, NB. They had three children Mary, George and Charlie, three grandchildren Deborah, Jack and Karen and two great grandchildren Ashley and Kristen. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peters Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Women’s League. She cleaned the church and prepared it for services. She loved to garden and cook. Marguerite also loved to organize parties and fund raisers. She loved to quilt. She learned to hook from her mother and other family members and she taught her daughters to hook. She moved to the Grass Home in Riverview in 2010. |
