Hooking was done for family use. Margaret Mae Tozer MaDonald married Agnus MacDonald on August 22, 1914 and they resided with her parents on the Little Southwest Miramichi. She was survived by 4 of her 5 children and 12 grandchildren. It is quite possible her mother Elmira Travis Tozer used to hook as well. Some of the mats she hooked were probably commercial patterns. We believe she also did original designs as elements from one rug were used in another rug. Her daughter, Evelyn MacDonald Somers was artistic and she would draw the patterns for her mother to hook.
