Biography:In 1906, Mabel Lena Wry Alward moved to Wood Point, New Brunswick, then back to Sackville in 1953. Her Scottish grandmother was a weaver. Trained in Saint John, NB, to make hats, she worked in a general store and was also a correspondent with the Sackville Tribune-Post. Her husband was a Deacon of their church and Mabel served in ladies' groups, performed in the choir, and was secretary and treasurer. She had an unusual gift with words. She probably learned to hook from her aunt who was a seamstress and her grandmother who was a weaver.
