Biography:Laura May Abbott was born in Welsford, New Brunswick. Her father,. Arthur Harry Jones worked on the railway. Her mother was Susan Maud. In 1915 she married Herbert William Abbott, a British orphan who was from Erdington, Warwickshire, England and came to Nova Scotia at age thirteen before moving to work in New Brunswick. He farmed but then got farmers lung so bought a general store in Welsford. Laura and Herbert travelled to England and Europe. Laura belonged to the Ladies Aid (precursor to United Church Women) she hooked, quilted and was the church organist. She taught her granddaughter, Kathy, the piano on Saturdays. Her last hooking was the Centennial Mat. She did eight or nine quilts for the family. Laura had four children, five years apart.
