| Biography: | Jean Kitchen McCormack was the daughter of Douglas G. Kitchen and Lois M. Cross. She studied Home Economics at university then married Leo Patrick McCormack on February 17, 1945 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Her husband was in the navy and they moved frequently, living in twenty two different locations throughout Canada and the USA. She was a homemaker, sewed, smocked, knit, made quilts and crafts. She had met neighbours who hooked rugs and at age forty-eight she was taught to hook rugs by Lil Harley (died 2008) in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Her grandfather, Mr. Cross, partnered with Mr. Theodore S. Estabrooks who brought the tea from China and set up a tea company. Her father named the company Red Rose as he associated roses with British and tea. She often incorporated red roses into her mats and quilts because of the association with Red Rose Tea. |
