Biography:Elmire Goguen lived in Cocagne, NB, where she had land and a barn which she rented to support herself and her orphaned handicapped brother. She traded her rugs for food, keeping one which her cousin inherited. She attended the local church and was given the key so she could access it for personal prayer. She later moved to Dieppe in 1950. She stayed with the current mat owner’s family. She loved to make mats, was shy, tiny and very devout. Her parents had died when she was twenty.
