Hastie, , , Scotland
Canadian, 1897 - 1977
Biography:Elizabeth Turner Hastie was a Scottish immigrant arriving in Canada and moving to Quebec on May 10, 1928 and then moving to Upper Dorchester, NB, on May 11, 1928 where she lived until 1944. Elizabeth was a homemaker and an unbelievable cook especially of traditional Scottish recipes. She never lost her Scottish accent and was faithful to her roots. She loved her family and always had a smile on her face. Her daughter (and mother-in-law of the mat owner) remembers always seeing a mat in front of the hearth and everywhere else in the house. She made a hooked mat for each her grandchildren, including Arthur Smith the husband of the mat owner. She taught her daughter Margaret to hook. She made all her own designs according to the mat's owner.
