| Biography: | Eliza Jones Thompson's family had emigrated from England to Saint John where they later obtained land near Dipper Harbour.When she married at in 1878, at the age of 18, her father gave her a portion of the family land and they named the farm Round Meadow Farm. She married Robert C Thompson (1855-1934) who was a seaman and herring weir fisherman. His father came over from Ireland in 1842 during the potato famine. The farm was isolated between two villages. Eliza sold butter and eggs to one of her sons. The family belonged to the local Baptist church. Eliza went on the have 11 children. In her later years, she lived with her bachelor son, who drove the mail for 47 years. |
