| Biography: | Bessie Mildred Smith Currie was the daughter of Harry G. Smith and Mahala Van Wart. Her mother was of Dutch ancestry. She moved to Douglas when she was fifteen and lived there until her death. She married Darcy William Currie, August 7, 1935. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Anglican Church, she quilted at the Johnson Center in Nashwaaksis. She loved to recite and read poetry, made a lot of hand crafts, and knitted. She learned to hook from her mother when she was a young girl. She taught two of her daughters, Maureen and Diane, to hook. |
